For maybe the 15th time or so now, nothing notable has happened to me recently, and I have a bit of free time to blog. What do I do on this occasion? I write more tidbits, as I’ve been inspired by my own last entry. I’m going to be a bit more haphazard in my story telling at times to ‘take things further’, though. For no easily understood reason I will be sharing an on the surface, not so interesting 'impossible' challenge that me and my old school classmates were given about half a lifetime ago. But don’t worry, I’ll make it interesting as I’ve put a bit of thought into it over the years.
Alrighty, when I was in history class in secondary education, my female teacher said something like ‘I bet you can’t think of a word that ends in ‘ism’ that isn’t bad’. I didn’t think much of that sentence at the time, and pretty much ignored it and left it to the rest of the class to agree with her. There’s racism, sexism, ageism, after all, she must have been correct. However, it’s my regret I didn’t think harder, because I could have been a class hero to the mute pupils. ‘What’s wrong with feminism?’ I could have said. ‘What kind of self-hating idiot are you?’ Dammit. Furthermore, I agree that escapism may be psychologically harmful in the longterm, but surely its ok in moderation. I’m sure her apparent strong dislike of fantasy worlds would have clashed with her fellow English teacher’ s outlooks, no? I could have stirred some serious s**t. Weirder yet, what the HELL is wrong with medievalism, the study of the middle ages? You’d think a history teacher would like that kind of stuff. But again, luckily for the lecturer, I kept my mouth shut.
Tidbit No.2: Fasting forward to the very near future, thank the lord my brother and co will be staying home for Christmas. Last year, he celebrated it in America, leaving me pretty much on my own, and making it one of the worst holidays ever. (Not the very worst one, I have had a few where I was severely schizophrenic! :P) My family and I will be going for a delicious pub lunch and it will be great. There has been a little bit of a debate as to where to open my special fermented fish I talked about in blog 105, however. My dad suggested it should be ok to open in the garden, but I’m not sure. I’m worried the smell could invade homes and ruin other people’s special dinners. The nightmare scenario is the fish aroma creating lunches reminiscent of turkey mixed with sewage. And I am not joking, people will NOT be happy.
…. 3…. : Going back a few days, now, I watched Home Alone 1 on the TV. Rather unusually, it’s nowhere near as good as the follow up film, in my opinion. Did the ‘climactic’ home invasion/defence scenes at the end of the movie suck or what? The baddies get shot with a BB gun and they get something dropped on their heads. How the hell is that supposed to be in the slightest bit entertaining? (Ok, they did get shot in the dick, improving things just a bit). With Home Alone 2, things are miles more exciting and creative. So much so, that I like to watch it every year, if possible. But guess what I’ve just found out? It’s on Christmas day! Who watches Christmas films then? Surely those flicks are supposed to get you into the celebrations? On the 25th you already ARE celebrating! Therefore, I’m not going to watch it. Well done channel 4, you’ve made an amateur mistake. :( But then again, I am a 30 year old man and maybe the film isn’t exactly for me.
And… That’s all! Bye!
