Comedy Competition 15 (Blog 112)

Is wearing a plastic poppy enough to pay your respects to the soldiers who died in WW1? Even though I myself have worn them, they are a little tacky aren’t they? The highly cynical may say it’s like someone giving a 1p tip in restaurant. It IS something, but unless the staff are toddlers (which is sadly illegal) it’s also taking the mick. Even if you do have a replica flower that is far superior in quality, is calling someone with a more typical, cheaper one a c**t really justified, though? I don’t think so, but then again, that’s where the humour comes from in the latest winner of my Facebook Unsubscribe Tribe comedy contest I mention so much. A much easier moral question the victors bring up is ‘is it ever ok to run over OAP war veterans?’ ‘Excuse me?’ you may have (hopefully) replied. Again, before you call me crazy for saying ‘without a doubt, yes, but please let me explain’, here’s The League of Taste & Class Corp’s video… Leader of the group Chris Shaw’s work is funny, trust me.

‘No I still don’t think it’s funny, you only made the people win because they were nice to you and liked a load of your FB posts’. No that’s not true. Whilst I judge people on originality, acting, funniness, production and effort, I don’t judge people on being nice. (Though I might later add such a criteria in an attempt to boost my page’s like count. People often reciprocate as you may have previously suspected, after all). This time however and indeed like in all previous months, the winners won in a completely fair manner. It was a close contest, though. It may say a lot about me, but one of the acts I made runner up threw a playing card in a guy’s face, hard. Hard enough for it to actually go INTO his face. (Through use of special effects, I mean). And now for something completely different! Cheesy metal lyrics. Which one is worse? Megadeth’s ’feeding the needing for bleeding’, or Exodus’s ‘I’m no patriot, just a hateriot’. For many years, I thought it was a simple competition between the two thrashers, then I heard Metallica’s ‘my lifestyle determines my deathstyle’. Oh God. What the hell is a deathstyle? If the band sung ‘my life determines my death’, that would be a perfectly respectable phrase, but making up words is just dumb. Coroners for example, say things like ‘cause of death: Cancer’, or ‘cause of death: Heart attack’, don’t they? Imagine if they said ‘deathstyle: Cancer’, or whatever. How would you take them seriously? Similarly, how could you take an armed policeman seriously if he shot a dangerous felon, then said: ‘Deathsyle: Bullet’? Sort yourselves out Metallica! And on that thoughtful note…. Bye!.
