This will be my 100th contest blog? Let’s do something special, then! What could it be? You’ll have to find out but for now, let’s get into Matt and co.’s school-based podcast! As always, I’ll be reviewing as the show goes on and I have no idea what will happen! Exciting stuff!
Wow, the teachers begin the podcast by telling their names. I was completely wrong when I guessed, what was it? Joachim and Sebastien a while ago? Could have happened to anyone. Any foreigner, anyway. I have a foreign name so I don’t feel weird. They also pretty much immediately say how everyone hates Los Angeles. If I were to start a podcast saying ‘Hi, I’m Simon, I hate London’, you’d assume had some pretty strong feelings, wouldn’t you? That’s the most important thing I have to say? I like going into London, but again, I don’t like the smell. Not of some underground train stations, anyway. Buy some air freshener! I clearly have a romantic image of LA as when I think of it, I think fun beat ‘em up Super Nintendo games like ‘Rival Turf’. Sounds full of action. Of course I don’t literally want to see people get beaten up in L.A. or anywhere, but what IS ok for me is the punky clothes everyone in the game and therefore L.A. wears. I like the music in Rival Turf too, you should check it out! It’s like the Green Day song ‘Welcome to Paradise’ that says how great rundown cities are. Having said that, it may well be an ironic title. Whatever the case, again, nice music.
One of the teachers talks about getting ‘sub gigs’. Not to be confused with the performances American folk band The Sandwiches play. I knew there would be at least one band out there called The Sandwiches, I Googled them just now. Sadly pretty much every name has been done. Apart from Simon and the Sandals of Rhyming Spaniels maybe, but that’s mine!! My skiffle project! The same teacher then talks about moving onto teaching after getting sub gigs. Again, subs DO NOT refer to sandwiches in this case, it wouldn’t make sense. Matt then says his personality has changed since becoming a teacher. My personality on the other hand seems relatively stable. ‘You’re still the same boy you’ve always been’, ‘this person is a nobody’ and ‘you don’t want to be like this person’ which I think is advice my niece was given. Matt later said he proposed to his girlfriend on Christmas morning. Very exciting, though there is the risk the proposition would be trumped by the other presents which is something you don’t want, obviously. Too much of a risk maybe. He should have proposed on a random day, like March 13th. I get what he was trying to do, but yeah, could end in disaster.
The teachers then point out Matt is becoming a real man by getting married soon, which is a little strange to me, as I think real men have the best karate skills. Wow, someone got mugged then beat up all five of the attackers? Wow, he’s a real man! I mean, right? How does getting married make you a real man when no skill is involved? The teachers should have called Matt a lucky man. Changing the subject a little (he did have a reason) Matt said he’s getting some grey hairs in his beard. That’s the kind of thing I’m worried about, but I think my lighter hairs are just blonde. Again, fun multicolours, just like the people in LA wear. Cool! I’m going to get my hair cut soon, if I get told I have grey hairs, I’d just die. Do real men say stuff like that? Probably not. Matt later talks about a company called ‘Sour Properties’ that has buildings like ‘Gotham City.’ A CEO with a likeminded view of reality, it seems. Again, I’m romanticising, if I lived there I’d probably just get robbed or punched. Matt then talks about how he views teaching more positively when taking a break from it. Matt is romanticising, too! Just not quite as much as me.
The teachers say how the children lead the classes rather than the teachers. You know what I would do as I child to lead the class? Listen to music! Which I did at times, as I was allowed… Relatively harmless right? So please don’t take my Rival Turf ideas too seriously, in hindsight I realise that sounded a bit dodgy. But it wasn’t supposed to be. :) The podcasters also say how schools are like insane asylums. Again, whilst in the mental home, I mostly just stayed in my room and listened to music. Things weren’t perfect though, I spent the rest of my time screaming in my sleep. Matt says if children got more therapy, things would be better which apparently makes sense but I did art therapy for a few months, I was told my drawings were interesting and then they were stored in a cupboard. A nice compliment I guess, but I don’t know how it benefits ME. I filled out a personality questionnaire and was told I had low self-esteem. Well thank you very much, I feel like I’ve grown. Then again, maybe I haven’t as the comments I mentioned two paragraphs ago suggest. I was also told I wasn’t experiencing too much anxiety which surprised me as I felt pretty anxious with the screaming and all.
Wow, Matt previously talked about how teaching is like being in a madhouse. That was bad enough, but he later compares it to a coal mining disaster where everyone dies? Here’s Matts advert for the profession ‘You’ll only be happy when you get time off, when teaching however it’s like being in a madhouse (remember such places are noted for poo smearing on the walls, but that wasn’t my experience at all otherwise the place would get some REALLY bad reviews), it’s even as stressful as a situation where people are trapped deep underground and will have to either be crushed or starved. Which of the two is your favourite, lol? Good luck!’ Matt also said combat veterans find teaching more stressful than being a soldier so the advert continues ‘… and by the way, ever heard anyone say ‘war is Hell?’ Teaching is worse than that. Let’s be clear, it’s worse than Hell.’ That’s interesting as most adverts for teaching describe the profession as ‘rewarding’ and ‘somewhere you can grow’. Now check out his offensive video, below!
As hinted at earlier, of course it wouldn’t be a 100 contest blog special without something extra, so let’s talk about some of Matt’s Youtube shorts!
Short 1 is right below!
Excellent insights on people’s names… Now check out short 2!
Excellent insights on teachers phoning parents. That mini clip actually comes from the main topic of this blog! Watch it again, that’s what I say. Bye!
