Matt is back in business after a short break! In his latest podcast he talks about how hard it is getting the children he teaches to show respect to him and other teachers. A problem all over the world, it seems. However, and I say this with a sincere apology in advance, as he lives in America he does have something people in England don’t have and that’s access to guns. Just bear with me. I’m just saying if I was a teacher in his country, I’d be like ‘You’re annoying me, I have a gun and that’s just a coincidence. :) Much like when you think of somebody and they then give you a friendly phone call. Now let’s move on with the lesson, in this case drama. Where we all act!’ It wouldn’t be a threat, but at the same time I really do think it would scare the children into learning or at least showing me respect. By that I mean something’s not right with the situation. It’s like in jails, you get respect from being tough and as children are forced to go to school, that makes school similar, doesn’t it? That combined with the rubbish food and you have to wonder if that really is a coincidence. Ok, I liked most school food, but when I got the roast beef, I sneaked past the teachers and put it in the bin which ironically was a form of disrespect. In a way, that makes the gun talk ok for me to say. It’s like Americans calling English people ‘limeys’. You take that back right now! >:( If I call myself a limey I wouldn’t be in the slightest bit offended. It would make me WEIRD, but I wouldn’t be upset about the situation.
Matt also talks of how coffee makes him anxious. It’s bad enough if normal people carry weapons, if they’re constantly on edge that makes things much worse obviously. I think I have to come to the defence of the students in that case, as I’d be too traumatised to learn if I was them. Basically, I’d just want to go home and watch TV. You know what’s coming now? Yep you guessed it, imagine how bad it would be if someone drank coffee and consequently heard voices when carrying a weapon. Terror. Now I know that sounds like an unbelievably stressful situation for any child, which is why you never load the guns! If I was a teacher there would be empathy if I threatened to shoot them, but a non loaded weapon? Is that really morally wrong technically speaking? That’s the thing with philosophy, there are no true right or wrong answers. There are dumb answers, but you have to keep an open mind. Later on in the podcast, Matt says that some people who are 19 don’t know who they are. 19 year olds are old enough to teach, I think. Would you want someone who didn’t know who he is to carry a gun around with him? Ok, I’ve talked about guns enough, I think I’ll move on. No wait, Matt later says driving a bus sounds like fun. Would you like to be on bus with a driver who didn’t know who he was and who was carrying a gun? To sum up, maybe you should say no to guns.
Matt says that teachers teach the age range that they do, because deep down inside that’s the age they want to be again. What age would I teach if I was a teacher? Probably five year olds, but not because I want to be five again but because it sounds really easy. Here is an A. It sounds like ‘Ah’. You could teach that kind of stuff to university students, but they’d almost certainly be offended. They wouldn’t be aggressive around me, though. Not with the gun, anyway. No, only joking. Speaking of unnecessary violence, the podcasters were talking about what to do with groups of naughty children, and I thought someone said ‘You gotta beat them up.’ He actually said you have to BREAK them up. Similarly, you have to break up children who are playing football in areas saying ‘No balls.’ You can’t beat children up. There are some people who don’t like pop bands because the music they play is too upbeat and annoying. Try to get them to break up with each other by suggesting different careers? Morally wrong, but not terrible. Again, trying to BEAT them up? No. Right! This blog was a little more intense than I was at first anticipating it to be, but that’s the trouble with reviewing things as the podcast goes along. Now check out Matt’s video below! Bye!
