Persistent Download Confusion (Blog 539)

According to the internet (not A.I., I don’t trust that) my Mac should need an update later on today (at the time of writing, which is a Monday) and a big one, too! :S Keep it together, Simon. Keep it together. To pass the time as I wait for what I call ‘the notification of peril’ I guess I can do some blogging. Here goes, on Sunday I wanted to go with my family to the mini trains place, but the trip was cancelled because of the rainy weather. But I shaved then, so of course I wouldn’t be going. As I always say, for whatever reason I never see my brother’s family on the day I shave and I shave every two days. Here’s the dairy I’ve kept of all my family visits, I think you’ll find it quite interesting…

5th July: Birthday bash, no shave.

20th July: I did shave but the Guildford chilli and cheese festival was cancelled.

3rd August: Ok fine, I shaved on the trip to Hampton Court.

17th August: I shaved and my brother said he may come round but didn’t.

31st August: I had a shave, and the mini train visit cancelled as my brother was ill.

14th: September: I did shave but the mini trains visit was cancelled because of rain.

I don’t know about you, but the prior seemed pretty conclusive to me. I guess it’s not REALLY bad that I couldn’t go out on the day of rest, though. Do I really want my life to just be about going to small trains and Staines? Well, of course I do as the alternative is even worse. I still like eating pizza though at very least. In fact, I’ve ordered from Papa John’s so much I’m currently allowed to spend £180 on free pizzas/sides as a reward for my loyalty. THAT’S a pizza party and I don’t have to spend a penny! What is that, about 15 large, stuffed crust pizzas when taking the site’s special offers into consideration? That could feed about 30 people! Sadly however, I make a rather poor party host. A weird personality but to be fair, a 50/50 chance I will be well groomed.

Ok, I’ve just Googled when the update should be coming out, and there is a list online of all the timezones it should be released. It’s 6 PM for me… With all the details from the site, it’s as if the event is really exciting and something to genuinely look forward, to! Not for me, 6 PM a time where I’ll be at the gym, yet not high on the excessive oxygen, but very, very scared. ‘But why Simon? All you have to do is click on ‘update’ and wait a few hours.’ Not so, all sorts of wacky things happen. In fact as I’m typing this blog I’m listening to ‘Pressure’ by Staind and it really is the perfect soundtrack.

I guess I could pass the time by reviewing my last of five albums for Metal Rules, but it has 25 tracks in it! Making things even worse, I have a habit of reviewing every song I listen to as in a weird way, I find that easier than stripping things down. That’s going to be a long review. Unless maybe each song is 1 second long, then I could write the simple, two word review: Short songs. It doesn’t seem at all likely, though. I guess there’s something to look forward to, though. The local petrol station has new meatball wraps! I’ll definitely enjoy one of those after working out, I’ll just be doing so without the peace of mind, that’s all.

Remember when I said I recently wrote a review of an Ozzy Osbourne album and a list of his best solos for Metal Rules? They still haven’t published that yet! I’m assuming that’s because I’m the only one who’s did the extra work for the site and its Ozzy ‘celebration’ would be rather unspectacular if it features just one writer. I guess I can give it a few more days, and if it that stuff isn’t posted I can just ask if I can post in on my site, instead. It won’t be very funny, but at least my time wouldn’t have been wasted. No you know what? I guess I could make that stuff sillier. I’m not going to do that now though, as my mood is far from silly for obvious reasons.

Now what to say? Oh yes, I’m still crossing my fingers for future mini trains visits. I’m just saying that as my family has extra train tickets as we didn’t make the most of them the last time around as the trip was cut short. It would simply be financially foolish not to use them all up. Now what to say? Oh nothing, I’m absolutely knackered to be honest with you. Let’s check my computer for updates one more time, just incase those working for Apple feel like going above and beyond the call of duty? Nope, I guess I’ll sort my computer out after the gym, then. Please say I don’t have to use code and all that stuff again, that really sucked. And bye for now! Let’s see if I can come up with some jokes!

Now to blog about the update! First up, why was the numbering of it lower than Google said it would be? I didn’t have to do another one immediately after, did I? I guess I’d have to see… :S If so, what the hell, Apple? Anyway, as I waited for the download which may or may not have been the first of two, I watched the TV show ‘Only Connect’. I was thinking to myself ‘… these questions are impossible…’ It really does have to be the hardest game show I’ve ever watched and that includes University Challenge. On occasion (rare occasions) I do know the right answer to some of that show’s questions, but OC? Wow. To be fair, I did know some of the quick, I guess ‘fun’ questions towards the end of the program, but everything else was demented.

Speaking of University Challenge, I actually watched that show immediately after OC. Ok, ok, I didn’t know the answer to any of those questions, but they were still easier. One of the main reasons I watched it was to find out how a foreign-named competitor pronounced his surname, but annoyingly I never found it out, partly because I wasn’t paying attention - too much stress. When THAT was over, I played my electric guitar over some random action film I’ve never heard of. I may not have been paying attention to that either, but intuitively I knew it wasn’t very good. The acting didn’t pull me in at all, but that didn’t matter obviously as I was all about playing sick licks on my Randy Rhoads Jackson. My guitar used to buzz on one of the frets because of my preferred super low action, but I tuned it down a half step by mistake and the problem went away. With the reduced tension of the strings, it’s now even easier to play (almost unbelievable if you’re in the know about Jackson RR models, they play SO well) and it sounds heavier, too! That’s a good three wins…

Sadly however, after a few minutes of playing I realised that actually, one of the frets still buzzed. Dammit. It still sounds heavier, though. Because I was bored by the program I wasn’t paying attention to, I watched an ambulance program instead, which ironically had more action in. Anyway, long story short the download wasn’t horrible, but I still don’t really want to talk about it. At least it’s over now, right? It seems to be, but there was extreme annoyance when I found I had to do ANOTHER download after the first one! It didn’t seem to be the one that the internet said it would be, which is why I’m still worried I’ll have to do another update today or in the near future, but at very least the later update was very, very small. And that’s the blog over! Bye!
