Checkup! (Blog 364)

Today I had a doctor’s checkup! As explained not long ago, there are some local road closures meaning I could get have very easily got lost. Getting lost on foot is one thing, but getting lost in a car? Much of the time you’re not allowed to stop to get your thoughts together. In a way, it’s like Tetris - you have to keep thinking and if you screw up, it’s game over. Well in the worst case scenario, anyway. Just instead of blocks of various shapes building up, cars build up because you’ve crashed. Again, worst case scenario but it is something I worry about. Because I was so cautious, I arrived 40 minutes early. That’s particularly impressive when you take into consideration I got up around 7:30 AM. Because of my meds it’s hard to get up, but to be fair I went to bed early the day before. Now that’s sensible. Normal for you maybe, but I have to try harder. I get material out of me screwing up, but I have a limit when it comes to how much I will allow myself to do so. No matter how desperate I get, I’d never risk crashing in the hope of blogging about it.
Another reason I arrived so early was because my dad warned me there would be traffic. There was next to no traffic. He also lied and said I would have to go a completely different route. Nope, only one or two roads were different. It’s not the fact that he lies that gets to me, he often lies about small things and things that don’t even matter. Because my Satnav is somewhat vague and often doesn’t give you precise directions, I had to keep my eyes peeled, just in case I drove past the doctor’s and yes, got lost, but my eyes were adequately peeled, and again, everything was fine. Another boost for me. Things weren’t perfect though. When I got to my destination, I remembered that I forgot to drink a glass of water. Why did I want to do that? Well, sometimes it stings when I pee just a little bit, and I wanted to make sure I was ok with a test. Maybe I’d be fine and could go for a wee in a few minutes, though.
Anyway, as I got to the place early, I had plenty of time to check my car wasn’t parked illegally, etc. That took five minutes, so I still had a lot of time before my appointment. Hopefully the nurse would see me early, as she sometimes used to. Yep, that happened today! A hard worker or someone who can’t keep track of time? Who knows. After a good three small bottles of blood were taken for various reasons, I asked if my blood sugar level could be taken. Great news! It was so good, despite my notorious sugar addiction. That’s the gym for you, very good for you. Healthy body, healthy mind and all that. Well maybe that’s expecting a bit much from me. Healthy body HEALTHIER mind is more than doable, though. I explained about my ever so slightly spicy wees on occasion, and was told it’s most likely nothing to worry about as I was given a test a while ago, and was fine. I was told I should just drink more. If I was given a test today, I would cost the tax payer an almost unmeasurably small amount of money. That’s in contrast to the money needed to treat me when I spent a year in a mental home. I find it funny that I cost all taxpayers, possibly including you, maybe a quarter or a third of a penny. Yep, your money could have went to me! Makes me feel powerful.
I also explained to the nurse that sometimes I feel my heart beating hard in cold weather. She said that sometimes old people get heart attacks when shovelling snow which didn’t give me peace of mind, but thankfully she also said that I should be fine and it’s normal. Right, that was the checkup over! The drama wasn’t over though. I still needed to go home, and for whatever reason, my Satnav gave me different directions. Had I been rushed at green traffic lights I would have gone down the wrong road, but as I stopped at the reds I had a fair amount of seconds to think for myself, I saw reason and changed my mind. After that? A flawless drive. I actually prepared for the same journey a few days beforehand, and let me tell you this: I pretty much had no idea where to go, even with the help of technology. Now I can relax? Nope, on Tuesday I have a dentist’s appointment! There’s always something isn’t there? Even so, I’m getting a kebab today to celebrate the successes I did have. Mm. Bye!
