New HMV! (Blog 343)

I recently won £25 through Premium Bonds, so I decided to treat myself to two CDs from the new CD shop in Staines! I noticed that whilst there were plenty of DVDs to choose from, there were only about 10 CDs. I was thinking ‘wow, you really want to know why you’re going out of business? That is not a good selection!’ In disbelief, I asked a member of staff if there were any more CDs, and I was told there were some upstairs. Phew! I asked where upstairs was, and the person just said ‘upstairs’. Not to worry, I found it pretty easily. However, there were no genres on display, all forms of music were clumped together, and the band names were written down not printed. Not a particularly good image, but at least I could read was was written. If I couldn’t… dear God. But I could. I soon found a best of album by Rory Gallagher, which took me by surprise as I read it’s his best release AND I couldn’t find it on Amazon a few months ago. And Amazon have everything! God bless HMV and the guy who writes labels in pen.

Ok, NOW I can find the album on Amazon and for less than half the price I paid for it, but the main thing is that I have it now and don’t have to wait for a delivery. I also bought a Whitesnake LP as I knew Steve Vai played with the band for a while and his playing is super cool. When I got home I found that he didn’t play on the album that I bought, but Jon Sykes is pretty good too. As he also plays with a band called ‘The Pineapple Thief’ you could be forgiven for not taking Jon seriously, but his playing that I heard in Thin Lizzy is perfectly reasonable. After the CD shopping, I ordered what may or may not be my very own creation - the vanilla milkshake WITH cream on top. As it was getting made, I also treated myself to a small bar of very expensive dark chocolate. Was it worth the money? Absolutely not. But you live and learn. The shake on the other hand? Yum yum.

That’s it, the trip out described in two paragraphs. Now to beef up the blog by going a bit weird. As Vai played with Whitesnake later on and replaced Sykes, does that mean he psyched Sykes out? Ok, apparently Adrian Vanderberg was the first to replace Sykes, but that doesn’t matter, it just means he was the one who psyched out Sykes. An excellent play on words, I think. But you may disagree. Ah, my understanding of the phrase ‘psyched out’ is wrong. According to Google, it means ‘to intimidate’. I’m assuming Vai OR Vanderberg never intimidated Sykes. For that I apologise. Now what to say? Would it be interesting if I pointed out someone in the street noticed my jumper and said ‘Rammstein!’ in a German accent? I also gave 30p to a tramp. Ok, I’m going to have to stop here. A bit of a short blog I know, but expect quite a few more this month, the happiest time of year! Bye!
