RPG Maker Peril (Blog 318)

I recently found out the RPG maker (‘RPG Maker MV’) I was interested in for my birthday isn’t available for computers as modern as mine! Argh! Not to worry, I have less advanced MacBook that is just right. By that I mean it’s not too basic and it’s not too good for its own good. In fact, had it been just a tiny bit more recent, the game wouldn’t have worked on it. I don’t mean to sound foolish, but how can a computer be too powerful for a program? It would be like a car that’s so fast, it can’t drive under 100 mph. But how would you get inside of it when it’s moving at such speeds? Arguably cars should never be like computers, or many people will get run over. So, I cracked the right power problem? Maybe. But I didn’t want to waste a load of money buying something that didn’t work, so I thought it was best to check and ask some questions on the program's forums. I had to register to the site before posting and was given the opportunity to create my own super positive username to really get me pumped. Great! Here goes: ‘OnTheForumAndLuvinIt’. I wasn’t allowed to add spaces, but at least it was pretty clear. I was also asked what my interests are, and in this case I put ‘Asking simple questions.’ Note that I didn’t type ‘stupid questions’. Because they’re not stupid questions. Again, how the flip can a computer be TOO powerful?

Now I have to wait to get my comment approved. Maybe it will be hard to take seriously as my query heading was maybe a bit patronising and had a silly face on it (‘Will you make a sale? :O’) but I was just trying to lighten the atmosphere. That won’t necessarily work as I wrote something similar on some paperwork a psychotherapist would later read, and that didn’t go as well as intended. (To be precise, I used the acronym ‘lol’ in the hope of everyone lightening the flip up). But gaming sites are less serious, so yeah. And what kind of a company just turns away customers simply because they don’t know what they’re doing? Even I was being abusive (e.g. ‘your site is so dumb and I really hated it’) the company would still get money from me. Here’s an interesting philosophical question: How much is abuse worth? I mean, sure refuse to sell something to someone if only a couple of pounds would be made, but if you make a million pounds from an asshole? Personally, I think I’d be more or less fine with that. Although maybe I’d give him the finger when he’s not looking. Risky, you say? Not if you swear in your trouser pockets. Try proving THAT. It would look like (a prolonged) scratch.

Even though I see no major reason why my message won’t get approved (other than I may have placed it on the wrong forum page out of a mix of laziness and entitlement) whether or not someone answers my query is another matter. Maybe the site is used more by RPG fans rather than staff. Imagine if most of the users are people like ME. Wow. Too horrible to even think about, right? It would just be people trying to achieve the final pown and not helping anyone, you can’t be part of a business like that. Luckily I’m not running a business, instead I’m running a site with only one member of staff - me! I have to be honest, in the past I couldn’t really handle one other collaborator, but in my defence he was really annoying. I guess the world will never see what we came up with together but to put a long story short, our material only ended up with stuff he liked. Which was his stuff. Now to pass the time, I have a monologue to work on. Bye!!!

(A few days pass)

Wow, I’ve actually downloaded a more modern version of the game (RPG Maker MZ) onto my more powerful Mac computer! I have to say the whole process in itself was somewhat an adventure. I had to download a program called ‘Steam’ and set up a profile that I called ‘OnSteamAndLuvinIt’, I had to download a ‘key’ which I had to copy and paste, all sorts of crazy things happened. It actually took me over one and a half hours to sort out, way over the fifteen or so minutes it took to download my script writing software. And when I saw that everything was all running perfectly and I didn’t accidentally buy a Windows game instead of a Mac one? An amazing feeling. I’ve created my own seconds long RPG game where nothing at all happens, (although you can observe a relaxing pool if you wish) and all is good. Wow. Just wow. I won’t be playing it till my birthday as I’m mature (or rather two days after my birthday when I will be doing my celebrations) and quite frankly I’m looking forward to it. I was going to pay extra money for the game on the first RPG site I came across, simply because the people there were so helpful, but when someone from the site told me to go to another site and get the game cheaper there, I did think that was a good idea, and that I was being dumb earlier. That’s it! Bye!
