Staines with a Twist! (Blog 479)

Today, I went to Staines again! Sick of hearing about the town? Don’t worry, as there was a twist to the visit. What kind of a twist? I went for a brief stroll in a nearby park, beforehand! I actually went to the same park a week before as I do almost every week, but as it was dark last time, I got lost. Well a bit lost. Luckily after walking through a mysterious grassland/forest area and then reaching a road, I saw two passing cars lighting up everything so I could see where I was and could therefore workout where to go. Just a few more metres to the right. That’s all. Fairly self-explanatory as I was reasonably sure my prior travels were more on the left than usual! That sounded really, really stupid, didn’t it? Well that’s how I felt. Anyway, on today’s walk I didn’t get lost, but as I parked a bit further on the right than I often do, I guess I overcompensated by walking too much on the left and I found I was in the same situation as I was a week ago. However, as I could see, I soon corrected myself.
As I planned on getting more vitamin D supplements in Staines (the right ones, this time) I had some of my old vitamins in my pocket so I could remember what they were and so I could get the right ones from Boots, later on. Sounds harmless, but that did mean I had to put up with the sound of them rattling with every step I took. Very monotonous, rather like Chinese water torture. Worse even, as I heard sound torture is the only torture you can’t get used to. You know who I feel really bad for, though? The poor person who worked that out for himself. :S As I walked, I noticed the grass was wet, but the mud wasn’t muddy! Usually in wet weather I try to avoid the mud and stick to the grass, but today was the other way around. Very strange. There must be a reason for that, but the only theory I can come up with is rain that doesn’t know how to behave, which is clearly nonsense.
After half an hour or so, the rambling was over, so I drove to the town we’re all familiar with. It was mostly fine, but there was a little more traffic during the end of the journey. Was that because of a Remembrance Sunday event? There was one in my hometown that disrupted the traffic, but I wasn’t aware of such an event in the town I was travelling to. Would there be diverted traffic, meaning I’d have to admit defeat and go home? Hopefully not. And there wasn’t! Phew! In fact, I appreciated the traffic, as it meant I had some free time to look around in boredom. Sounds dull? No, because actually I noticed the exact same car as mine immediately in front of me, just in a different colour! The numberplate was completely different, but it would be, wouldn’t it? Speaking of numberplates, I’ve recently started noting down my favourites, what they almost spell like and making a monologue out of them. Here’s a teaser for you: A plate that looked like ‘Kamikaze Popo.’
The first shop I went to was Boots. Save the best until last and all that. In the store, I was very careful not to retrieve my old vits I had in my pocket and then compare them to the ones on sale, as I could have looked like a petty thief when I put my ones back in my trousers. The least ambitious petty thief of all time BUT one of the most health-conscious. Swings and roundabouts. Why bring my vitamins, then? I looked at them before! Next came the CD shopping! Much more fun. In HMV I could finally buy the Pineapple Thief album I’ve been interested in for a while, now. Here’s a thought: If it’s morally ok to steal System of a Down’s album called ‘Steal this Album’ technically speaking (I’m sure you could win the case with just an average lawyer), would it be okay to thieve a Pineapple Thief album if you have a pineapple with you at the time? I guess it would be twisting things a bit. Whatever the case, in the end I paid.
Next came the milkshake and muffin! Ooh, they have a Malteser Shake, now? Sounds fab and it was! As always, I had the drink topped with cream and this time there was an extra nice touch, that being a couple of Maltesers placed on the stuff. The foamy, milky treat on the small chocolate balls enhanced the flavour of them, too, is there anything cream DOESN’T make better? Any dessert type food, I mean, I’m not saying cream makes curry nicer, for example. Or does it? Isn’t chicken korma creamy? Surely cream doesn’t improve bacon?? Again, who knows? Lastly in the town, I bought a Subway to eat when I was at home. What to say about it? Good Subway! I was relieved when I got back in my far from unique car in the car park and it started properly, as I had another battery scare recently where my car almost didn’t start. Imagine if I got stuck in the car park, it wouldn’t be a pain just for me, but other car park users and ticket inspectors. At the same time, if I did end up annoying such workers, that would be me taking the power back at very least. And that was the trip (or double trip) out! Bye!
