Ultimate Facebook Contest Post (Blog 113, Super Blog 6)

As you may know, I’m running a comedy competition on Facebook called ‘The Unsubscribe Tribe’. (I’ve mentioned it at least 16 times now, but this is my first superblog based on my contest). My page was originally dedicated to the internet show ‘Unsubscribe’, hence the name, but that stopped running ages ago, so now it has no new mentions of the series. I always have posted blogs about who I made win, but I’ve never posted the scores and the comments that go with the runners up and losers of my contest in this Wiedemann Comedy site. (I know that’s a strong word, but it’s patronising and a little confusing to say ‘the last winners’). That’s a shame because some of such comments are quite funny (not all of them, some are intentionally boring) and until now, have faded into obscurity.

Let’s go back in time 15 months ago, to see what I wrote in my premier special event… ‘But Simon, all you’re doing is a load of copying and pasting. I want to see some new content from you!’ Don’t worry, I will be adding additional comments every now and then. You can find them in brackets with ‘Simon from the future’ or later ’SFTF’ written in them… By ‘the future’ I mean it would be the future if I… No wait, how do I put this? Well, the first contest started 15 months ago, right? So if I posted from the future… No, I mean basically now is the present, but if I posted what I wrote now, all that time ago, that would be me from the future. Right? Ok, THAT was confusing. (Well, it was gibberish, wasn’t it? I did try for a few minutes or so, though). Basically me writing ‘SFTF’ means I’ve added new material, just now. Let’s just move on.

Comedy Contest 1

Position: 1st

Author: Ameratron. Video title: When medium is too easy, but hard is too hard.

Original comments: Oh, man. F**king hilarious. (Oh my. I do apologise for that language - Simon from the future). The ending is a bit underdeveloped, however. The video on the whole is a little short in fact, but lots of effort went into the way it was put together, hence the high score. First! Ameratron, please feel free to print off your certificate that I drew. (Yes, the highly sought after ‘Special Thumbs Up’. - SFTF).

2nd

Alex Postings: How to make money without working.

9 minutes 22 seconds long, planned well and funny all the way through? Pretty impressive. Things went a little weird with the bad tears, (don’t ask what they are - SFTF) but I’m sure it appeals to a niche market somewhere. Respect goes out to the writer for making bloodied hands so funny. Could so easily have been plain scary!

Shy Ry: Mad dad needs to chill…

A very entertaining video. Not the most original, as there are tons of angry dad characters out there. But hey, this was fun. And out there.

Amit Bittu Creations: Revenge of Diwali.

A nice lighthearted and family friendly comedy. I couldn’t understand a word, (it was in a different language - SFTF) but it was still entertaining, and it was clear what was happening.

Ben Kirby: Dial A Boyfriend.

Great acting all the way through. So good that even the word ‘aaaaaaaaah’ was amusing. Maybe the cameraman could be more adventurous. Also, humour based on relationships is very common, but to be fair the comedy was taken a little further than most, here. Nice and whacky.

Outchea TV: You laugh, you lose.

Not the funniest jokes in the world, here, but it’s an interesting idea for a show. (Logically, if you laugh you lose - SFTF) I’m a big gag writer myself. As in ‘what do you get if you give a rabbi tea? A rabbit’. :P (Shameless self-promotion from me. SFTF).

Robbie Gibbon: The only way yo see in a Birthday.

Sadly originality suffered because of the video’s David Brent likeness. On the plus side, a lot of effort went into the dance routine. Apologies for not choosing a better video of yours! :S Please submit something again for the next contest!

Cam Newson: If Barack Obama Quoted Nursery Songs.

What if Barack Obama quoted nursery songs? How can that not be original? Unfortunately this video was too short and underdeveloped to get a higher score, though. The author should totally expand on his idea, and make the ex president go crazier and crazier!! (Whoops, I stuck my nose in a bit, there - SFTF). The acting was a strength.

Comedy Contest 2

Okey dokey. Let’s see how I followed that one up. My writing seems to have gotten more ostentatious over time, so sit back, relax and get ready for some real treats later on. :O (SFTF).

1st!

Bronco Land (Lizard People Exposed).

Love this one, even though not so much work went into the production. Having said that, the simple tin hat was funny and so was the music. Now that I think about it, the rawness in general is effective, so… whatever. Lots of effort did go into the script, at very least. (Ok, that wasn’t a funny comment. I didn’t want to overdo things, though. Could get annoying. SFTF).

2nd

Yellow Stockings (If Apps Existed 500 Years Ago (A nice and self-explanatory title there - SFTF)).

Excellent, upbeat acting. Many actors kind of come off as depressing, which I don’t like, but not here! The ending was a bit underdeveloped, but the ideas were interesting. Here’s a thought: Spam! We’ve all come across that nutter who keeps posting and annoying people. (For example, me - SFTF). How would someone like him (me - SFTF) act 500 years ago? Part 2 of this sketch must be made! (Ooh, me sticking my nose in again. In this case I was just trying hard to think of something to say about the runner up - SFTF).

3rd

Nige (The State of Nige).

Even though not my favourite entry this month, the filming and production was great. If only music was a criteria, the film maker would be well ahead. And your bedroom posters talked? Craaaaazy… Stay off the Iron Bru, the sugar and caffeine is getting to you.

4th

Tokyo Piss Bar (Join Hunter Jin Sharkey on his adventure).

Very well put together. The characters were interesting, there were quite a lot of them, (but not too many) and they were all different. The story develops well, too. The needless ‘translating’ was a highlight, very funny. (Very matter of a fact, there. Don’t worry, it gets better to be clear - SFTF).

TwizzFizz (When You Miss Your Old Roommate).

Great acting with very funny voices. So funny in fact, that the script could be a load of poo and I wouldn’t even care. (I know that because at first I wasn’t really paying attention to the story). But it is a good script, anyway. :O An excellent character, too!

Gangster Octopus (No Soliciting: Episode 1)

This is definitely American humour. I’m English, so I prefer crazier stuff (e.g. Monty Python and bloody comedy decapitation scenes), but this was still good. But y’know… How about some sword fights? Just a thought.

Vinay Umapathy (Hey all men ever, let’s do better).

A well planned and entertaining video, coming from a very nice person. His beard makes him look wise, but his cap makes him look a tiny bit gangster. What should you pay attention to? Beard or cap? (It’s beard). This video could do with some more jokes, though.

9th

Kiana Raven (When you see Bea without makeup for the first time).

Well put together, but very short. I know it may have sounded like a joke when I said that green skin is a symptom of multiple organ failure, (that was when I first posted the video in the pre-judging stage - SFTF) but if your comedy is based on real experiences (as it often is) you do need to see a doctor.

Tommy Ettling (Dog Runs Away)

There wasn’t so much comedy in this. The dog eating the ice cream was just adorable, though. And when the dog was reunited? Quite beautiful. A good video.

Tim Andrews: Punsung Hero. (Nothing Compares 2 Flu).

Again, if only musicality was a criteria, this video would be getting a solid 5 for it. But sadly, it’s not. Not only is there haunting singing in this video, the sniffles and sneezing are first rate. Shame about the uninteresting camera work, but I guess it doesn’t have to be interesting.

Acting: 3.5

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 2

Overall: 2.8

12th

Thermodynamix.ca (Deleted Scene From STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI).

Short and sweet. But still short, though. Yep, this needs to be longer to get a higher score. (Once again, it’s good and not patronising to be clear - SFTF). Even so, lightsabers aren’t exactly easy to get hold of, so well done for taking yourselves so seriously. 5 for effort… Hang on, I’ve been told you’ve used special effects. Whoops.

Originality: 2

Acting: 3

Funniness: 3

Production: 3.5

12th

Jerrod Lewis World (Hood Home Improvement).

Perhaps the funniest part of this video, was the way the character rises over and dips behind the fence. Just a tip for you. (In hindsight, that comment made the video sound rubbish, but the fence thing was actually pretty good - SFTF).

Originality: 2.5

Acting: 3.5

Funniness: 3

Production: 2

Overall: 2.7

12th

Orange County Arts Center (How can you you make fast food even faster)

This could be seen as an over-the-top video, (the characters travelled space to get fast food - SFTF) but many people don’t realise how addictive fast food is. You could actually advertise this one as a deep social statement. If you did that, you might just get a higher score. :O

Originality: 2.5

Acting: 3.5

Funniness: 2.5

Production: 2.5

Effort: 5 (Come on, they did travel space… Oh? What’s that? Special effects, again? Ok). 2.5

Overall: 2.7

12th

Darryl Oakley (Aussiedaz).

Another dog based video. Less sad, though. Respect goes out to the author for making such a long, if deranged joke!

Comedy Contest 3

Have I upped my game with my writing in this month? You decide… (SFTF).

1st

JaM (How Guys Treat Their Girlfriends)

Originality: 4

Acting: 4

Funniness: 4

Production: 4

Effort: 4.5

Overall: 4.1

An allrounder with loads of great ideas and funny lines. The only disappointment here, is the way the song gets cut off at the end. That was a tune that all NES owners will love, I’m sure. I’m not going to take away marks for that very minor criticism, though. If I did, I’d probably get shouted out and generally disregarded. In an amusing way, though. (If you have no idea what I’m on about, you really need to watch the video. Again…. …. it’s good to be clear… - SFTF).

2nd

Bad Medicine (Trick Shot Videos)

Originality: 4

Acting: 4

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 4

Effort: 4.5

Overall: 4

I was impressed and amused at the same time. Excellent stuff. And the Bounty Hunter? (A name for a style of trick shot, that is - SFTF) was something anyone could do, which is great. I might try it, right now. Yes I did it! Woop woop. (Again, you need to watch the video to fully understand that hyperactive mini paragraph. My writing even confused me until the visuals came back to me. Whoops. - SFTF).

3rd

Poop Frogg (Awkward Sketch Artist)

Originality: 3.5

Acting: 4.5

Funniness: 4.5

Production: 3.5

Effort: 3.5

Overall: 3.9

Short but very sweet. Well, short and very funny, rather. I’m not sure the whole penis thing could be described as sweet. (…. …. …. Don’t ask - SFTF) That was outrageous.

4th

Harry Stachini (Howard Episode 4)

Originality: 3

Acting: 4

Funniness: 3

Production: 4

Effort: 4.5

Overall: 3.7

More of a comedy drama than a pure comedy, but this still had its funny moments. ‘I’m trying to shout at you as quietly as I possibly can’. Meheheh. Lots of effort went into this one, as well.

5th

Supper Humour (Old Man Backflip Prank)

Originality: 3

Acting: 4

Funniness: 4

Production: 3.5

Effort: 3.5

Overall: 3.6

Confusing the public is a very common way of creating comedy, hence the relatively low originality score. Even so… Pretty funny. I’ve never seen a backflipping OAP, at least… The crazy running up the stairs was great as well, as was the dramatic stab chord! >:)

5th

Ron Halvorson Productions (Christmas Stand-Up)

Originality: 3.5

Acting: 4

Funniness: 4.5

Production: 2.5

Effort: 3.5

Overall: 3.6

The funny still mouth whilst singing thing was very interesting. A great standup routine. The rest of the video was about things like tuberculosis at Christmas, so I ignored all that stuff when reviewing. Historically interesting, perhaps, but not so much funny. (Ouch. I must have been in a bad mood when I said that. :S - SFTF).

5th

Pillars Of The New Age (Troublesome Father)

Originality: 3.5

Acting: 3.5

Funniness: 4

Production: 3.5

Effort: 3.5

Overall: 3.6

Another very funny video. ‘Please help me with my phone, it’s ringing’. Lol. The whole annoying guy making people do stupid tasks thing, was an idea I’ve seen before, however.

8th

Em J Taylor (Acting Improvisations)

Originality: 3

Acting: 4

Funniness: 4.5

Production: 3

Effort: 2.5

Overall: 3.4

Excellent acting, but sadly this video got a low effort score, because of the simple camera usage. I know that you didn’t need to make things more complicated, though. (Yes, a favourite comment of mine - SFTF) Very funny and inspiring stuff.

9th

JD Dabasedcook (Art Lesson)

Originality: 2.5

Acting: 4

Funniness: 4.5

Production: 3

Effort: 2.5

Overall: 3.3

Although very funny, the whole ‘this is great, no actually this is rubbish thing’ has been done before. Even so, you took it in your own direction and pulled it off. The acting was very good, too. ‘Wooooow, beautiful’, lolz. Don’t worry about coming 9th, I was a lot more selective of videos, this month. Many of the ones I watched I thought weren’t good enough to be in this super special competition.

10th

Scott McGinley (Harrison Ford Leaves Angry Phone Messages For Neighbour)

Originality: 3

Acting: 4

Funniness: 4

Production: 2.5

Effort: 2.5

Overall: 3.2

As amusing as this was, the effort score suffered as it was just voices over pictures. Still though, the acting was well done and his angriness was both justified and funny.

11th

Peter Prins (I Want To Give Normal People The Light)

Originality: 3

Acting: 4

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 2.5

Effort: 2.5

Overall: 3.1

A good stand-up routine, but it lacked individuality. Ron Halvorson is a good example of someone who has something new and interesting. I’m still thinking about that mouth thing, lol. (Who’s Ron? If you look carefully, he’s another entrant in my competition. Again, that puzzled me for a while, anyway. :S - SFTF).

Contest 4

Is this tournament clearer than last month? Let’s find out! (SFTF)

Ranking: Mistaken 1st. (What could that mean?? - SFTF).

Writer and his video: HaramiPun, (AkshayKumar At His Best Performance)

Scores:

Originality: 4.5

Acting: 5

Funniness: 4.5

Production: 5

Effort: 5

Overall: 4.8

(No this one isn’t clearer. I said this video was a mistaken first because I later found out it was professionally made with a very big budget. None of the others were, so I disqualified it - SFTF).

Below is actual 1st…

Kate Perry (Showreel)

Originality: 4.5

Acting: 5

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 4

Effort: 4.5

Overall: 4.3

Yes, this is the real winner, full of wonderfully acted characters. Ok, there are no ‘specially operated’ weapons here, (that’s a euphemism for ‘penis operated’ - SFTF) like there was in the above but that’s fine. Sometimes it’s better to be more subtle.

2nd

Aid Thompsin (Too many Drugs)

Originality: 4

Acting: 4

Funniness: 4.5

Production: 4

Effort: 4

Overall: 4.1

This video shows how Ozzy Osbourne should have ended up, but didn’t. Apparently his surprising survival has something to do with his hardy Neanderthal DNA, not because poor bats/doves are superfoods. Anyway, this entry is very funny with great acting. ‘Jesus Christ!’ Yep, that’s exactly what I was thinking.

3rd

Scott Stewart (When You Tickle Your Girlfriend)

Originality: 4

Acting: 4

Funniness: 4

Production: 4

Effort: 3.5

Overall: 3.9

The above video was surprising, but this one took the shock value up a few levels or so. Definitely worth checking out, as it’s not easy making stabbings funny.

4th

Andrew Windsor (Packaging!)

Originality: 4

Acting: 3.5

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 3.5

Effort: 4.5

Overall: 3.8

The most family friendly video, this month. To be honest, I prefer to see a little more blood/pus, but this was good. Whoever thumbed this video down was either funny in the head or jealous.

5th

Ross The Boss TV (Just My Luck)

Originality: 3

Acting: 4

Funniness: 3

Production: 4.5

Effort: 4

Overall: 3.7

Not a very original idea, but the production is pretty impressive. Lots of effort surely went into this one, as well. How was it allowed to be filmed in a supermarket, though? Maybe it wasn’t, and the actor now has a criminal record. :S If so, maybe I could boost the effort score a little higher. Probably not, though.

6th

Sam Blacker (Things hat (my mistake - SFTF) Guys With Receding Hairlines Never Say)

Originality: 3

Acting: 4

Funniness: 3

Production: 3

Effort: 3

Overall: 3.2

Nice and cheerful presenting, which is very important to me. This was fun to watch and the way the actor said ‘Yeah!’ was first rate. Not so many (traditional) jokes, though but I’m assuming that was intentional.

7th

Danny Dechi (Comedy Greensleeves)

Originality: 3

Acting: 2

Funniness: 2.5

Production: 2.5

Effort: 2.5

Overall: 2.5

Perhaps more of an educational video than a comedy. But who doesn’t like seeing someone being hit on the head?

Ok, that’s every review done. (Every review at the time, I meant - SFTF). Hopefully next month will be bigger and hopefully I’ll see more dick guns from less well known groups. So, fingers cross, eh?

Contest 5

Did you think that last month was better? I did. Bats are superfoods. Teehee. Let’s see what I said next… Note that from now on I start with the losers first and end with the best. It’s more interesting to read that way, isn’t it? (SFTF)

11th

Rod Walsh (Standup At Club Voltaire)

Originality: 3/5

Acting: 3/5

Funniness: 3/5

Production: N/A

Effort: 2.5/5

Overall: 2.875/5

Coming in a perfectly respectable last place is Rod Walsh. That may not sound impressive, but there were many videos I could have entered in my contest but didn’t, because they weren’t good enough for its world famous reputation and more than 50 followers. (Now it has around 90! - SFTF). Therefore, Mr. Walsh is technically beating a lot of people. His material is funny but as I previously hinted upon, (in the pre-judging stage again - SFTF) he has missed an opportunity to spread a highly memorable catch phrase.

10th

Ted Shiress (Channel Trailer)

Originality: 3.5

Acting: 4

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 2

Effort: 2

Overall: 3

I know the effort and production scores look harsh, but to be fair, it’s just a guy and camera, isn’t it? For your next video, please use explosions, etc. Good luck!

10th

Steve 5 (Billy Motten’s EZ Cars!)

Originality: 2.5

Acting: 4

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 2.5

Effort: 2.5

Overall: 3

As funny and well acted this is, I’ve seen this kind of joke before. (In Little Britain, for example). At least I hope it was a joke. (What was the mysterious gag? It was a fake exposed penis. :S - SFTF).

8th

Poop Frogg (Grand Big Mac REVIEW!)

Originality: 3.5

Acting: 4

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 2.5

Effort: 2.5

Overall: 3.2

This one was a lot of fun. The presenting was really upbeat and watchable, even in times of great adversity. Well done. (The character was treated badly if you’re confused - SFTF).

7th

Originality: 3.5

Acting: 3.5

Very professionally put together. However, don’t think you’re getting credit for the video clips of films (unoriginal films, I mean - SFTF) you posted and consequently getting a perfect 5 for production. Not going to happen.

You’ve won! You’ve won! Pretty hilarious material coming from very funny actors. What else can I say? And how will I blog about you and your ultra-success? I’ll have to wait and see! :O

Contest 6

What’s my writing like this month? At very least, it is logical. Last place is first to be read again. Satisfying. (SFTF)

Originality: 2.5/5

Acting: 3.5/5

Funniness: 2.5/5

This person is clearly a very wacky individual. He wears clothes in a bath yet he comes across as a skilled salesman? Of course the cameraman let him put a radio in the water, his sense of reality was clearly messed with. He probably forgot what day it was. That makes the sketch just that little bit better than similar comic electrocutions. Suspension of disbelief and all that.

7th

Aaron Glenn (Lance Visits Verizon).

Originality: 3.5

Acting: 3.5

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 2

Effort: 3

Overall: 3.1

Some very funny lines from this Mr. Garrison soundalike. ‘I don’t even trust you’, lol. As previously said on my site, (in the pre-judging, once more - SFTF) ‘hoo-o-o-o…’ was strangely entertaining, as well. (Yes, sometimes simple human noises are funny - SFTF). The production let this person down, but for what this was, this was pretty good. Improvisational skills were top notch!

5th

Emily Kelly (Bonsai).

Originality: 3.5

Acting: 4

Funniness: 3.5

Production: 3.5

Effort: 3.5

A funny and professional sketch that also points out the craziness of acting teachers. ‘How can you pretend to be a human, if you can’t pretend to be a tree?’, the professor said. Surely vegetation is far more difficult to understand than mankind, as living life without thinking is extremely hard. Unless you are catatonic, in which case, how did you get in the university?

Arguably, there shouldn’t really be anything in this act that could be transferred to life coaching. Reegan is just cruel. :( Oh, I just remembered… This is a comedy contest! Funny stuff.

One of the most confident performances in this competition. Maybe next time I could make confidence one of the criteria. This time however, you just got screwed over. :(

Very funny stuff! Great jokes, but maybe the delivery could be worked on a bit, to make everything super professional. Prepare to get blogged about!

An interesting prop above your lip, there. However, check out Steve 5’s video for a first rate one on his eyes…

A very good song about genre inequality. The Royal Male postal service should really be ‘Royal People’ shouldn’t it? I’ve been so blind.

A funny sketch, but come on… two teddy bears operated by two more than visible hands? Very raw. They did distract from the emotional abuse however, so it’s not all bad for you. :P

Wow. Those eyes. They kind of took attention away from the acting a little, which was a shame because it was very good.

Excellent presenting! Not exactly as funny as classic The Simpsons, but it’s not supposed to be. It is funnier than the latest Simpsons, however. (New episodes of the Simpsons suck, don’t they? - Ok there’s your comment… - SFTF).

Socially Irresponsible

A very professional video that could be on daytime TV as far as I’m concerned. Apart from the ‘later f**kers’ bit, but change that to ‘goodbye’ and you’re away.

Not only have you abused exclamation marks, you’ve also abused capital letters. Many script sharing sites would strongly disapprove. But I’m nice. :P
